Dr. Carl M. Block attended the University of Arizona for his pre-doctoral training, followed by a one year internship at Baylor College of Dentistry. He attained his doctorate in dental surgery from the Medical College of Virginia in 1989. He graduated cum laude, reflecting his academic excellence. His surgical residency training was completed at Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 1991, at which time he entered private practice on a full time basis.
After completing his training and residency, Dr. Block extended his skills and leadership back to the academic community. Since 1991, he has maintained an Adjunct Clinical Professorship at the Medical College of Virginia where he lectures and trains post-doctoral students within the Department of Periodontics.
Dr. Block is a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, meaning that he is a board certified specialist - the highest recognition offered by his specialty. He is also a Fellow of the American Society of Osseointegration and was voted "one of Richmond's top periodontists," as published in Richmond magazine.
Dedicated to the development and integrity of his specialty, he founded the James River Study Club in 1992 - a continuing education forum for post-doctoral studies in comprehensive care, and currently serves as the club's president. He likewise serves on the editorial review boards of several scientific journals including the Virginia Dental Journal. Additionally, is also actively enrolled in a multitude of continuing education seminars, himself.
Dr. Block is actively involved in bone-grafting and implant research and consults several companies on product development. He has been published in numerous publications and continues to lecture both domestically and abroad.
On a Personal Note
Dr. Block has three daughters and is very active physically, usually preparing for triathlons or duathlons.
